1.  What is Digital Citizenship?

Posted 08-16-2016 10:16

The new ISTE Standards for Students has certainly given me a great deal to think about.

I am a teacher educator who is a member of a faculty that places an emphasis on not only helping future teachers to teach effectively but also work towards a more just democratic society.

I am wondering if anyone is bumping out the "Digital Citizenship" standard to not only mean keeping students safe and to recognize the online consequences of their actions (both admirable goals) but also to mean citizenship in a more moral, active and justice-oriented way?

Thank you in advance!

Thank you for sharing this article!  As a parent and teacher that has been out of the classroom for the last 10 years, I can see how technology can bring up a lot of fear for parents and teachers.  This article points out the importance of integrating technology and teaching students proper digital etiquette so they aren't reacting to the fear shown to them by others.
