Daily Check In App

I am working on an app that will be used by staff and students daily to do a quick daily check in on COVID symptoms.  I have the data go to a Google Sheet, but I want to be able to identify quickly who has NOT filled out the form.  Any ideas on how to organize a Pivot Table that will highlight who has NOT filled out the form daily?  Or, do you know an app that will do that for you that is low/no cost?

I would suggest using a database program instead of a spreadsheet.  Filemaker Pro is a user-friendly program that offers a substantial educator discount and the iPad app is free. Simply add the appropriate fields/questions (or download from your spreadsheet) and add a query with the criteria you define.

I have to agree with Lyn on this one.  You'd have a much easier time working with this data in a database.  It would be easier to manipulate and be much more flexible in terms of future needs with the information.  If you have Office 365, you may already have MS Access which is a simple database program.  If you are strictly a Google school, then you could export the Sheets data into a database program.

I would have to agree as well, as the Google Form data will only be based on who has filled out the form unless you are assigning it through Google Classroom. If you are assigning it through Google Classroom then teachers can see who has and who has not filled out the form.

    Hey Laurie
Hope all is well with you up in the north country!!  Google classroom is a good way to disseminate the form to students but it would not correlate the students who did not fill out the form in your sheet (not sure if that is a necessity for what you are looking to use the data for).

Thanks Brian!  Always great to hear from you.  I worked with another teacher and we figured out a formula in Sheets that seems to be working.  I do like the idea of the Google Classroom tie in though and will mention it to the district as well.  It might be easier to sort it that way for the multitude of students.

    HI, Laurie,

I am coming in late to the game on this one and it looks like you may have already found a solution.  I am not sure what School Management Service that your school uses.  We are using TeacherEase SchoolInSight.  They are hoping to add certifying option functionality for students and teachers. If my understanding is correct, this will help flag those who have symptoms and/or not certified for the day.

    Best of luck,

    Marcy:)
