Hi Sean,
Here's what I did in a workshop with ELA teachers:
- I printed both the writing standards and the Digital Citizenship standards and cut each standard into strips
- teachers analyzed the standards and paired them in such a way that they felt they could concentrate on that particular ISTE standard while they were teaching a particular ELA standard. Digital Citizenship can be taught and woven through all standards, but this was a way to get teachers to think about that specific standard during that specific time and teach it explicitly if needed.
- Teachers then determined which paired standards they either agreed, argued, aspired, or need to adjust (see images)
- The aspired standards are what we then developed goals around.
- The specifics as to how they will teach it and what this looks like are either facilitated through workshop or coaching
Let me know if you have any questions.

Subject: ISTE for Curriclum Writing
Hello all,
We have spent time building background knowledge on ISTE with our staff and working through what it might look like in the classroom. We are now ready to begin curriculum writing with the standards in mind. Has anyone done/ had any professional development for staff around incorporating the standards into the new and old curriculum? Can you send us any resources or professional development agendas you've used about curriculum writing with ISTE?
Thank you!!
