What are some of your favorite projects/learning experiences for students to apply their STEAM, maker, and tech knowledge to create for social good. I'd love to learn more about the ways that students across the globe are engaging in this type of meaningful learning.

We offer a free resource for teachers to engage their students in making for social good! It's a 20-lesson (or run as many lessons as work for you) global citizenship, STEAM program that incorporates making through cardboard construction and focuses on the UN Sustainability Development Goals. Our first program in this series explores SDG #6, Safe Water. We have partnered with the amazing not-for-profit, The Life You Can Save, and students have the opportunity to transform their making and learning into social impact by fundraising to provide safe water to millions of people on the planet. Please check it out here https://www.make.do/pages/makedochange

This sounds great.  Are there specific grades that it is targeted for?

It's written for grades 3 to 8 and elements of it could be taught to younger and older students too. There are specific supporting resources for different age groups and the program is easily adapted to meet the particular ages/needs/interests of the students.

My content usually focuses on K-8 but I'm definitely interested in hearing about examples from all levels, even higher ed.

If you haven't checked out the National Youth Leadership Council , I'd encourage you to do so as well as the stuff Edutopia has on Service Learning. There are some examples in their showcase area that may inspire you. :-)

Check out the Build a Better Book project! Youth use a variety of different maker tools & technologies to create more accessible books, games, toys and STEM learning tools for children/youth who are blind or visually impaired. Students have created tactile books, interactive kits, toys, board games, etc., for a variety of community clients, including school and public libraries, schools for the blind, and special education departments.
