Ed Tech Tools and Communities for Supporting Students with Disabilities

    Greetings!

I'm new to the ISTE community and I'm thrilled to see that so many folx are active in the discussion posts. I'd like to find more information about supporting Students with Disabilities using EdTech. Can anyone direct me to an event, Professional Learning Network, or discussion thread where there's more information? I'm happy to explore your favorites!

Thanks in advance! I very much look forward to hearing from you all.

    Hi Marlene,

You may find Inclusive Learning 365: EdTech Strategies for Every Day of the Year, an Iste-published book, helpful. Full disclosure, I am one of the co-authors but we believe it is essential for every educator. It was written to help educators adopt an inclusive mindset and includes many Ed-tech solutions to reach learners who present with learning variabilities. It is available through the ISTE Bookstore or through Amazon.

    Thank you, Patricia!

I just registered and I look forward to being an active member of the learning community. I've done plenty of reading regarding supporting inclusive education with technology lately and look forward to everyone sharing some practical pieces.

    I appreciate your share.

    Hi Marlene,

I'm attending the CASE Conference for special education directors in November (https://www.casecec.org/the-case-conference) and I expect technology will be a part of it, but I can't say for sure because its my first time. I'm going as a solutions provider, working on gamified VR tools for dance-based interventions for SPED students - we're currently prototyping in schools and I'm looking for feedback on our project if you're curious: https://vizmoo.com/

A couple more things I thought of:

Temple University TechOWL (https://techowlpa.org/) an assistive-tech lending library and resource.

The Educating All Learners non-profit has a tech tool library tool (online, no lending): https://educatingalllearners.org/tech-tool-library/

    Hi Marlene,

If you haven't already you could check out the Equity, Inclusion, & Accessibility forum here.  There are some great discussions and resources you could check out.

    Hi, Marlene,

Much of my work revolves around helping teachers design their learning activities to be inclusive for students with all abilities.  I find myself going to the CAST website.  Their resources page is amazing.

The Assistive Technology Industry Association also has some resources that are helpful, if you're looking for assistive technology support.
