Pop Quiz: How many amazing resources come with your ISTE membership? Almost more than you can count!
Dear ISTE educators,
I am currently exploring Grade 1 classroom resources to teach digital skills. I have found CommonSense and Book Creator to be quite helpful to elevate digital skills so far. Do you have other suggestions or advice to find more resources for Grade 1 students?
Thanks a bunch,
What types of devices are your students using? I have some suggestions depending on if platforms/ hardware align. We are an iPad school for our LS students.
Thank you for your response! We are using iPads and Apple Pencils for Grade 1 students. We have a variety of apps with Class Link however I think that it can be quite overwhelming for the students. I would like to build on their digital citizenship and guide students to navigate online safely to start off with.
I think Common Sense has excellent skeletons of lessons and strong learning objectives. What I suggest is to utilize other apps that foster digital skills such as: Drawing Pad, Flip-a-Clip or iMovie to showcase understanding of the digital literacy topics provided by Common Sense. If you wish to speak offline, I have a number of other excellent apps in my tool belt and would be happy to share ideas.
Best for 23-24,
I think this may have overlap with what you have explored so far, but Wixie has a roadmap for ICT skills at:
You can also find a fun blog with ideas for using literature and making to explore digital citizenship at:
Have a look at Draw and Tell EDU - it's. a great app that can be used in lots of different ways with younger learners. Here are a couple of resources to give you an idea how you might use it:* https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1E03VfYbOZvZPV9K_M0IyitKlNLbRlKI_fZABN7OsVwc/edit#slide=id.p1
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful resource and strategy for early learners. I have attached my poster from my ISTE 23 poster session on using technology with young students. https://www.canva.com/design/DAFmjwQX9tU/qScexn8uNxoioy3XY4IrAQ/view?utm_content=DAFmjwQX9tU&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link&utm_source=publishsharelink
