My district is seeking resources for Pre K ELL learners. This is out of my area of experience - any suggestions would be welcome. (All I've got experience with is DuoLingo).

    Please and thank you.

    Hi Sally,

As a former ELL teacher and someone who has been in ed tech for 20 plus years, I would love to share a few of my favorite supports for the littles.

As you know, images are key to support background knowledge for all students, especially ELL's. So, definitely check out the free image site called Pics4Learning. Every image goes through a vetting process to make sure it is appropriate for use in education.

    www.pics4learning.com

Have you heard of the Pk-8th grade productivity tool, Wixie? Wixie includes a Primary interface for the littles (Standard one for upper grades) and has authentic images, a robust and growing clipart gallery, and thousands of templates, activities, and lessons (some in Spanish, French too). There are also a plethora of ways students can PRODUCE and share oral and written language through voice to text, text to speech, recording and video tools, and animated, "talking" stickers (these are incredible for language!) . And, the best part is every Wixie project (animation, interactive book etc) saves automatically and is a snap to share with parents so they can see (AND listen) to how their children's skills are developing over the school year.

I would also recommend perusing articles on the Creative Educator as well for additional innovative ways to forester language acquisition.

    Happy exploring!

I am super passionate about language learning, strategies etc, so please reach out directly if you have any  questions. In fact, I just presented at ISTE on ELL's, so I would be more than happy to share our preso/ info too.

You might want to check out World Languages from Lightbox Learning. You can request a free trial so you can see what is available. World Languages subscription has 125 books translated to 16 different languages. Great for younger students and ELL students of all ages. My teachers love it! https://openlightbox.com/

Hi Sally - FrenalyticsEDU might be another good option too. Though it's designed primarily for special education, the new AI-powered text translation feature lets you show content in English (default) or in a wide range of other languages, all done automatically. The pre-made skills range from pre-K to 3rd grade, with way more being added in the next month or so. And, the analytics dashboard will also show you how students are doing on each skill/question, including the language it's shown in. Plus, it's free!
Let me know if you want to try it out and I can get you a free upgraded plan too (I may know someone there... 😉)

    Hi Matt.

Thank you for the courtesy of a reply. I just established an account and would love to try an upgraded version. I had to submit an "unblock" request to our tech department as my access was getting hung up in a filter - so could we initiate an upgrade in a couple of days?

    Best regards,

    Sally
